What:
The older children get the more complex experiences they will encounter; without parent(s) guidance, it might become difficult for them to navigate. Initiating a conversation with children about complex experiences can be difficult for a parent but necessary for the development of a child, creating a communication gap.
Goal:
Conduct research to create a brand identity that builds trust among parents and is friendly to children to breach the communication gap between parent(s) and children ages 5 to 8. The brand will have a subscription packing box that will include a storybook, a parent guidebook, a character plushy, and a website.

Primary Research
As part of my projects, I created a Google Form to research what important topics parents have a hard time speaking to their 5 to 8-year-olds and what questions might 5 to 8-year-olds have. The information I collected helped me bridge the gap between the two distinct audiences and narrow down my target audience needs.
Secondary Research: Speaking to a Developmental Psychologist
Even with the Google Forms questioner, my exposure to my 8-year-old brother, and a 6-year-old nephew. I had to understand the best ways to speak to children and if LUNA and its strategy was a good approach to the problem. I connected with Kirsten Condry whose area of expertise is in Developmental Psychology. Professor Condry helped me understand the information from my Google Forms by putting it into perspective.
Competitor Analysis
I found several websites, articles, blogs, and books dedicated to helping parents speak to their children and how to parent. No website made it more personalized or offered a subscription box. LUNA would be the only one of its kind at this time.
User Personas
Areas of Improvement
When preparing the survey I should have made two separate surveys - one for the parents, one for adults without kids, and an interview for children. I did not ask any demographic questions for screening purposes and limited the information I had to understand the users. I also should have created more open-ended questions. My explanation for the survey was limited and influenced the surveyors in their answers.
Logo Breakdown

Logo Clearance
Clear logo clearance to avoid clutter using the circle placed in the "U" to gauge the surrounding space around the logo. The typeface I utilized is similar to the trusted by parents' classic Sesame Street logotype.
Logo Meaning
LUNA stands for listening, understanding, negotiating, and accepting with the idea that those are the basic steps of a productive conversation. The acronym LUNA is friendly to children while instructional to parents.
Social Media Logo
The logo was simplified for social media to just the, "U" as that is the unique part of the LUNA logotype.
Logo In Motion

The two dots play the role of a parent and child coming together; when animated it highlights the connection between the two dots. The logo can be used on any online platform or commercial that supports videos or gifs.
This logotype can be used on any online platform or commercial that supports videos or gifs. It will be a profile picture for any social media account.
Brand Color Palette

The color pallet is friendly and evokes trust with the primary color being royal blue while the accent colors are focused on the primary colors to appeal to the young audience.

LUNA Book Characters

Each packaging box will have a different design treatment and connect to a character and the stories.
The box brings a children's book, a parent guide book, and a collectible miniature plushy. The plushy will serve as a reminder of the conversation with the parent.

Braelin Box Items

The first box follows the story of Braelin, a young girl that has been noticing that her mother is exhibiting out-of-the-norm behavior. This book will focus on a child that has a bipolar diagnosed parent.
The Parent Toolkit will provide the parent(s) the necessary tools to initiate the conversation about the diagnosis and what it means for their family.
Imagine RIT Booth Presentation
In preparation for my Imagine RIT booth I prepared and printed on the Roland Versa UV-LED Inkjet large format printer wayfinding signs, character stickers, resources for parents about speaking to kids, and a LUNA logo sign.
I had the chance to present LUNA to hundreds of people at Imagen RIT and hear their thought and feedback. The children were excited about the free stickers and characters, but the parents were excited about the idea.
